Volkswagen XL1 achieves 'only' 160 MPG not 314 MPG.

Volkswagen made big claims about the efficiency of their purpose-built XL1 diesel-hybrid. They claimed the car was good for 314 mpg, which equates to 0.9 l/100km in the Metric system. However, at a recent test drive event organized by VW, a handful of journalists were given the chance to drive the mid-engined XL1.
The Automobile Magazine representative at the event averaged "only" around 160 mpg or 1.47 l/100km, which is still a hugely impressive figure but not the EU-certified 314 mpg originally promised...

Toyota Prius Sales Pass the Three Million Mark.

Honda and GM to develop fuel cell technology together.

General Motors and Honda have announced plans to jointly develop next-generation fuel cell system and hydrogen storage technologies, with the partners aiming for a market launch of 2020.
The collaboration expects to succeed by sharing expertise, economies of scale and common sourcing strategies. In addition, the two car makers plan to work together with stakeholders to further advance refueling infrastructure, which is critical for the long-term viability and consumer acceptance of fuel cell vehicles...

"Monster" Tajima First in Class and Fifth Overall at Pikes Peak.

First-in-class (electric) "Monster" Tajima, in his Monster Sport E-Runner. With a final time of 9:46.530, Monster was only a few seconds off last year's overall record, and took fifth place overall in this year's event....

The focus now turns to next year's event. Loeb is now the man to beat--but can an electric vehicle claim top spot overall in 2014?...
